University Athletics to Launch Pep Band, Enhancing Game Day Experience

Hoping to offer another unique opportunity for students and further enhance the gameday experience for spectators, Rockhurst University athletics today announced the addition of pep band to its slate of offerings starting in fall 2026.
The new program will provide a unique, scholarship eligible opportunity for current and incoming students interested in expanding or continuing their interest in music and further boost the energy for Hawks fans and players at Rockhurst University basketball and volleyball games and select other athletics events.
The University will begin the search for a pep band director who will oversee the operation of the band and begin recruiting its inaugural roster during the 2025-26 academic year. The band is expected to debut in fall 2026.
“We are excited to announce the creation of the Rockhurst University Athletics Pep Band. As we try to enhance our gameday environment, we fully acknowledge how a pep band can contribute to the excitement of college athletics,” said Kristy Bayer, director of athletics. “There are so many talented prospective students out there who want to continue playing in the band. Rockhurst is offering an opportunity to be a part of the gameday experience while continuing their education.”
The volleyball and basketball programs already have a lot to be excited about — the women’s volleyball team ended their fall season with a 21-7 regular season record and earned a spot in the NCAA Division II tournament every year since 2014. The men’s volleyball team, now in its inaugural spring season, has posted a winning a record. And the men’s basketball team has recently qualified for the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and had its winningest season since 2019.
