Assessment Tools
Career Development offers a variety of assessments which can be beneficial in defining your career goals and declaring an academic major.
Strenghts Finder Through the 34 different talent themes, you can gain a better understanding of your own unique skills and strengths. Once you have a better understanding of yourself, you can then move forward with declaring a major and defining a career path.
What Can I Do With This Major? Do you want to explore what careers are out there in the working world? If so, What Can I Do With This Major provides information on more than 80 fields, typical employers and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities upon completion of your time at Rockhurst University.
Holland Self-Directed Search (SDS) is an assessment based upon personality type as it relates to the work environment. This assessment provides career direction by giving suggestions on majors and occupations that match an individual’s type.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a widely used inventory used to explore personality types and how they relate to the workplace.
Resume Instruction and Critique
Career Development is available to assist students with the creation and refinement of their resume and cover letters. Our experienced staff will provide feedback and recommendations on resume format, content and organization, as well as proofreading for grammatical and spelling errors.
Interview Preparation
Students interested in improving their interviewing skills may participate in a mock interview through Career Development. During the mock interview, students will gain experience responding to traditional and behavioral interview questions. Put yourself at a competitive advantage by enhancing your interviewing skills BEFORE the big interview. To schedule a mock interview, contact Career Development at 816-501-4061.
Class/Organization Presentations
Career Development will come to you! That’s right. Career Development can provide a career-related presentation or workshop to your class, organization, residence hall, or other student group. These workshops range from 45-60 minutes in duration and will satisfy residence hall and student organization programming requirements. Topics include:
- Choosing a major
- Effective job search strategies
- Writing resumes, cover letters and thank-you notes
- Interviewing tips and preparation
- Negotiating offers
- Business etiquette
- Dressing for success
