Parent/Guest Guide for Parents
Purpose
Rockhurst University provides students the option to grant “Parent/Guest Access” through their Rockweb portal. Control of the Parent/Guest Access belongs solely to the student and enables direct communication between student and parent regarding the student’s record, as granted by the student. The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) law restricts the release of confidential student information without the consent of the student. In an effort to balance the protections of FERPA with the student’s decision and desire to share their information with selected third parties, we have developed the “Parent/Guest Access” program. (NOTE: Student payment processes are accessed separately through the Student Account Center (SAC); a separate parent authorization and PIN is required at rockhurst.afford.com).
Further information concerning Rockhurst University FERPA policy is available in the University Catalog.
Instructions for Parents/Guests:
-
Once your student has added you as a Parent/Guest “Proxy” you will receive an email at the address provided by the student. Please provide your student with the most secure email address. The email you receive will provide you with a URL link along with a temporary “action password." Please retain this password to establish your new PIN.
-
You will be directed to enter the temporary password and then to establish a 6(min) to 15(max) character password for subsequent logins. Use the “temporary action password” in the “Old PIN” field, then establish your new PIN password.
-
After establishing your password, you will be asked to complete a profile. Please be sure to complete all required information marked with a red * in order to proceed.
-
After the initial login, you will go to the link below for all subsequent logins and select the Parent/Guest Menu. Please do not attempt to login to the original URL link again. It is very important that this special link and special password be used only once.
-
ROCKWEB LINK for future login: https://ssbp.rockhurst.edu:8101/PROD/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage.
-
After your profile is completed, your student will grant you specific authorizations for you to access/view their academic related information. You will receive an email listing these authorizations.
-
Note: Financial account access to view and pay bills requires a separate authorization through the Student Account Center (SAC). An account can be set up at rockhurst.afford.com. The SAC parent authorization is used for bill payments and is separate from the Parent/Guest Portal which is used for access to academic information.
Common Issues:
-
If you forget your password, the student may establish a new temporary password through the Parent/Guest Access account.
-
In compliance with FERPA, the student has the right to control which information is granted to the Parent/Guest Proxy.
-
Proxy attempts to access the Parent/Guest Menu at work may be blocked due to business firewalls that do not allow access to some outside internet sites. If this occurs, the Proxy must contact their workplace network administrator to request access to the website.
-
If a Parent/Guest access disappears after being granted, the dates set for access may have expired - new access dates must be established in order to reestablish access. This may also mean that it was done intentionally. It is best to contact your student to discuss the issue. Remember, the student is in complete control of access.
-
Note: Authorization given to a Proxy to access student information through the Parent Portal does NOT allow Rockhurst University School Officials to discuss student information with that third party unless a signed FERPA release is on file. To give permission to Rockhurst University School Officials to discuss private educational information, the student must submit the FERPA authorization to the Registrar’s Office.
