This program offers a diverse range of courses in art and art history. Visual arts students have a unique opportunity to craft an interdisciplinary course of study and cultivate their unique set of artistic talents. Studio spaces allow students to work in an expansive range of traditional and non-traditional disciplines including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography and mixed media.
Program Overview
Rockhurst University students minoring in visual arts can supplement their academic studies with a myriad of opportunities for internships and exhibitions both on campus and in the greater Kansas City visual arts community.
Students choose a minimum of two different media, chosen from the following: drawing and design, sculpture, painting, ceramics, photography and digital imaging and design. Students then complete credits in upper-level coursework in the two areas studied in the lower-division courses. Additional options are available.

- The visual arts department has many facilities, including studio spaces to create inspiring work and exhibition spaces to showcase them.
Visual Arts Facilities
Ceramics & 2D Studio
The ceramics and 2D studio in Arrupe Hall has kilns, throwing wheels and adequate space for students to use for their ceramics classes.
It also provides ample access to materials and drawing tables for students within the drawing and 2D design classes. With an open and flexible floor plan, the studio can transform to any need from figure drawing and still life to independent work setups.
Greenlease Gallery

The Greenlease Gallery is home to the Van Ackeren Collection of Religious Art and the Contemporary Exhibition Series, which presents local, national, and international artists.
Students are invited to submit exhibitions to the gallery for possible showings. The gallery also holds student exhibitions within the gallery every year. Gallery assistant work-study positions are also available for students.

Arrupe Hall has a showcase dedicated to student work from classes and beyond. Students are invited to submit works to be placed in the showcase.
Students are also given opportunities to curate features of student work in the showcase.
