Can the courses be counted as credit toward a Rockhurst certificate or degree?
Yes, if they are credit-based. Credit courses count as graduate credit toward a Rockhurst MBA. A total of 10 credits would qualify for an Advanced Leadership Certificate.
What is the Advanced Leadership Certificate and is it part of the Leadership Institute?
Yes, the ALC is part of the Institute. The certificate was created as an alternative to the EMBA. While it does not have nearly the breadth or depth of the EMBA, the ALC is focused on leadership and management takeaways that all managers at all levels benefit from. The ALC provides access for firms to develop a larger percentage of their leadership staff.
What if someone already has a Masters?
The Rockhurst Leadership Institute offerings can still be ideal as they will serve to refresh on some topics and, importantly, extend the skill in leading, organizing, and communicating effectively. Other masters’ programs do not typically address these topics in the depth or applied nature of a true development program.
How are these offerings different than your degree programs like the EMBA?
First, they have much less breadth – they focus only on management and leadership development. While the EMBA also does this, it also gets into other areas such as marketing, global markets, strategy, finance. The non-degree offerings identify essential elements that are tied specifically to leadership development.
Can someone pick and choose courses to take for a certificate?
No. A cohort will be formed, which benefits the learning. A company, however, could choose to have a customized offering that did not adhere to these groupings. That would be a company offering rather than open enrollment and specifications and pricing would be negotiated.
Where does instruction take place?
For open enrollment, classes will take place at Rockhurst University in its Executive MBA room, Conway 204. For company sponsored sessions, we could do them onsite or at Rockhurst depending on access and interest by the client company.
What about remote students?
Delivery is designed for face-to-face meetings but it can be adapted for remote participants if your site has adequate conferencing technology. Note that for the more experiential components of the course modules remote students may perceive a slightly different experience from those face-to-face.
Who should participate?
These courses are targeted to managers from executive level to mid-level. Because the focus is on application, practicing managers will be able to apply what they learn immediately making the learning most impactful. For the communication and leadership modules the participant pool can be expanded to supervisors and team leads who have been identified for high potential to become managers.
Do these offerings include coaching for participants?
No, but we encourage participants to use a coach. We can link you to some excellent executive coaches.
Are there other offerings for Executive Education?
There are other possibilities that can be used or adapted to meet a firm’s need or for the overall market. Based on those needs, we would welcome working on those possibilities.
