Sporting KC Coach Peter Vermes To Headline Rockhurst Young Alumni Speaker Series
Legendary Sporting Kansas City soccer coach Peter Vermes will share his expertise on building a winning culture as the latest guest of the Rockhurst University Young Alumni Speaker Series at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, in the auditorium of Arrupe Hall on the University’s campus.
In his presentation, titled “Building and Maintaining Culture in Business,” Vermes will talk about how he helped build an organization poised to compete in the present and well into the future. Vermes was hired as the organization’s technical director in 2006 before taking the helm as the team’s manager in 2009. Under Vermes’ leadership, Sporting captured the MLS Cup in 2013 and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2012, 2015 and 2017.
As technical director for the organization, Vermes oversees roster management, scouting and oversight for the Swope Park Ranger and Sporting KC Academy in addition to his duties as head coach, building a perpetual competitor in the MLS. He is the longest-tenured coach in the MLS and the fifth-winningest coach in the league’s history.
As part of the night’s program, the University will also present the annual Faber Young Alumni Award to Allison Rank, '08, Realtor at Reece & Nichols. The Faber Young Alumni Award is given to a young alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated leadership capability, substantial indication of a commitment to the service of others, demonstration of potential for leadership and distinction in the long-term, and substantial commitment to Rockhurst University and its mission.
