Biography
Mary Haskins, Ph.D., is a member of the biology department in the College of Arts and Sciences. She primarily teaches biology courses for majors, including lecture and laboratory courses in ecology, parasitology, invertebrate zoology and general biology. Haskins also teaches a non-science majors course in environmental science and sustainability.
During the last 20 years, she has secured approximately $6 million in external funding to provide Summer STEM Academies for K-6 teachers. Haskins has reviewed numerous grants for federal agencies, including NASA, the EPA, and the U.S. Department of Education.
Her research interests center around invertebrate ecology and environmental sustainability issues.
Haskins has served as a faculty companion on three Rockhurst University international service trips.
On a personal level, she has two German shorthaired pointers adopted from rescue organizations and finds spiders especially fascinating. She loves to travel, and since 2005 has been to the African continent five times to visit former Rockhurst students. She has also been an honored guest in three African weddings.
Haskins shares many of her national and international experiences with students during discussions of environmental and sustainability issues.
