Rockhurst University Eases Transfer Requirements for Associate Degree Holders
Transferring to Rockhurst University has become much simpler for students who have earned an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited community college.
Rockhurst now accepts an Associate of Arts degree in lieu of completing the core curriculum requirements at the University. The new program makes the transition to Rockhurst more seamless and should save students time and money.
“We recognize that students who come to us with an associate degree want the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree within two years,” said Doug Dunham, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs. “This new program makes it more likely for students to do that and to benefit from the experiences of earning a degree at an academically prestigious Jesuit institution.”
Like all 28 Catholic, Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States —such as Georgetown, Boston College and Creighton — Rockhurst bases its core curriculum on liberal arts courses designed to give students a breadth of knowledge and build critical thinking.
Students who enter with an associate degree will build that knowledge by taking a course in philosophy, in theology and in an upper-division liberal arts course. Since all Rockhurst students are required to take 12 credit hours of electives outside of their major, transfer students will be able to complete these requirements as electives without adding on to their total number of required hours.
