Men’s Tennis: Lazenby receives GLVC Scholar-Athlete Award
Rockhurst’s John Lazenby has been selected as the 2011-12 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Lazenby, a junior biology major, owns a 3.93 cumulative grade point average. He finished the season with a singles record of 11-7 and a combined doubles mark of 13-3 while playing No. 1 singles and doubles for the Hawks.
The Joplin native also earned All-Conference honors for the Hawks, who finished with a 9-4 record and were ranked 47th in the nation in the final ITA Division II poll. He also earned Academic All-Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
The GLVC selects one student-athlete in each conference sport to be designated the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. This award is based upon athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance in the season upon which the award is based. Each conference member has the opportunity to nominate one individual from its team for the award. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average which meets Academic All-American standards (3.30), and freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award. The voting is completed by each institution's Faculty Athletic Representative.
