Women’s Soccer: Rockhurst remains unbeaten
Freshman Brandi Van Booven scored her second game-winning goal in three days to lead Rockhurst to a 1-0 win at Indianapolis on Sunday. Van Booven scored in the 36th minute in the first half assisted by Abbey Gebhardt and Morgan Dahm.
Senior goalkeeper Lucy Sullivan collected her second consecutive shutout. She turned back five Indianapolis shots, including two shots in the final six minutes. Both teams finished with 11 shots. Sophomore midfielder Ally Rodriguez led the Hawks with five shots. Kasey Lierz and Van Booven added two shots apiece.
Behind four second-half goals, Rockhurst posted a 5-0 victory over Saint Joseph’s Friday night in Rensselaer, Ind. Five different players scored to power the Hawks in their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.
Nicky Alfonsin, Taylor Skala and Nicole Keeve scored in the first 21 minutes of the second half to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead. Lierz assisted on all three goals. Haley Long netted the final goal in the 71st minute. Rockhurst led 1-0 at halftime on a goal in the 44th minute by Van Booven.
Rockhurst, ranked fifth in the NSCAA Division II Midwest Region poll, outshot the Pumas 23-8 while posting nine shots on goal. Skala led Rockhurst with five shots. Van Booven added three shots. Sullivan made four saves.
The Hawks, 3-0 and 2-0 in the GLVC, return home for their home opener on Friday against Wisconsin-Parkside.
