Men’s Soccer: Hawks are No. 1 seed in NCAA Midwest Region
Fifth-ranked Rockhurst received its sixth invitation in to the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championships. The Hawks, 17-2-2, are the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region and will receive a first-round bye.
Rockhurst will meet Friday’s first-round winner between fourth-seeded Notre Dame (Ohio), 14-5-0, and fifth-seeded Drury, 12-4-2, in a second-round game Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at Rockhurst. The winner will advance to meet either second-seeded Saginaw Valley State or third-seeded Quincy on Nov. 15 or 16 in Tahlequah, Okla., in the Midwest Regional finals.
The Midwest Regional winner will face the Central Region winner on Nov. 17 or 18 in Tahlequah, Okla., for a berth in the national semifinals. The Division II semifinals and finals will be played Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 in Evans, Ga.
Rockhurst captured the Great Lakes Valley Tournament championship on Sunday at Rockhurst. Junior midfielder Paolo Scoppola scored on a 15-yard shot in the final minute to give the Hawks a 2-1 victory over Missouri-St. Louis.
