Women’s Basketball: Hawks fall short at Missouri Western
A Rockhurst rally in the second half fell short at Missouri Western as the Hawks suffered a 67-63 loss to the Griffons Saturday night in St. Joseph, Mo. The loss dropped Rockhurst to 2-4 on the season going into a home game against Ottawa on Dec. 15.
The Hawks came back from an 11-point deficit to pull within one point with six minutes left in the game. The Griffons made a layup and two free throws in the final 40 seconds to hold off Rockhurst.
Freshman Lauren Meyers led the Hawks with 13 points and six rebounds. Kara McFarland scored 12 points. Melanie Siscos added 10 points and five rebounds. Rockhurst shot 44.2 percent from the field and 64.3 from the foul line.
On Wednesday, four players scored in double figures to lead Truman State to a 67-49 victory over Rockhurst in Kirksville, Mo. Truman jumped out to a 44-24 halftime behind a14-2 run in the first half. Rockhurst closed the game on an 11-2 run over the final six-plus minutes.
Allison Streich led the Hawks with nine points and three assists. Becca Strobbe and Melanie Siscos added eight points apiece. Lauren Meyers collected a team-high six rebounds. Rockhurst shot 34.4 percent from the field and 60.0 from the foul line.
