Rockhurst University is home to students, faculty and staff from many backgrounds and nationalities. Each person is a valued member of our community and adds a diverse perspective that helps us grow as individuals and as a University. We strive to be a welcoming and safe place for all students, faculty and staff, regardless of immigration status and nationality.
Rockhurst University is committed to the value of “cura personalis” or “care for the whole person.” This means that we seek to support individuals within and outside the classroom, and to honor each person’s human dignity. We recognize that our students, faculty and staff may be affected by national policy decisions related to immigration, including the decision to rescind the DACA program. We offer our support to DACA students during this stressful time. Know that Rockhurst University will continue to protect student information and privacy rights to the extent permitted by law.
In the unusual event that Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers come to our campus, students, staff and faculty should interact with them respectfully and immediately call Security at 816-501-4010. Either the director of security, the dean of students, or the director of human resources (or their designees) will engage with these officers regarding their requests – and will consult with legal counsel as necessary.
Rockhurst University offers resources or referrals for those who seek counseling, legal assistance or knowledge about these issues. Contact Matthew Quick, Ph.D., vice president and dean of students (Massman 1; 816-935-3259; matt.quick@rockhurst.edu) if you are in need of assistance or support.
