University to Unveil New Athletics Logo at Family and Alumni Weekend
Mark your calendars for Friday, Sept. 29. Family and Alumni Weekend will bring hundreds of Hawks — past and present – and family members to campus for the annual Family and Alumni Weekend festivities. The centerpiece that night will be the tailgate, with food and activities for attendees while volleyball and women’s and men’s soccer games take place in Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse and on Bourke Field, respectively.
It's also when Rockhurst Athletics will unveil a newly designed logo. Kristy Bayer, director of athletics, said the new logo is one that is steeped both in the University’s history while also reflecting trends of modern athletic graphic design.
“We’re excited to be able to share this new logo with campus,” Bayer said. “Our new Hawk draws from our past but also looks to the future. It’s a graphic identity that I think will inspire our student-athletes and be a source of pride for our current students, alumni and families alike. It sits alongside our peer institutions but is unmistakably Rockhurst.”
The logo was designed by local advertising and marketing firm Johnny Lightning Strikes Again, who looked at peer institutions as well as University archival materials for a logo that is designed to stand the test of time.
The announcement itself will take place after the women’s soccer game that starts at 5 p.m. on Bourke Field. The unveiling will feature the RU Spirit Squad, Rock E. Hawk and University student-athletes. Immediately following the announcement, gear featuring the new logo will be available for purchase.
“Family and Alumni Weekend is a perfect time to debut our new logo,” Bayer said. “We’re in the middle of a really exciting time in Rockhurst University Athletics with the expansion of our athletics programs and fall sports underway. I really hope our community is able to share in the energy of the moment and celebrate with our student-athletes.”
