School of Education Announces New Agreement with Jesuit College in Belize
Students affiliated with St. John’s College in Belize will be coming to Rockhurst University to complete doctoral studies in education, according to a new agreement between the institutions.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the two institutions Sept. 21, the 40th anniversary of Belizean independence. It will allow up to 10 students from St. John’s College to enroll in Rockhurst’s Ed.D. program. The first cohort will begin in June 2022.
Located in Belize City, St. John’s College became part of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, a network of 28 Jesuit educational institutions in the U.S., in June 2020. Founded in 1887, it is the newest member of the AJCU network and the first located outside of the U.S.
The exchange not only benefits the students from St. John’s College — it also provides additional perspectives to Ed.D. students at Rockhurst and opens a new avenue for the University on the global stage.
“In this global world, international partnerships are very important, and there are strong synergies between our two universities that will be mutually beneficial,” said Nilufer Guler, Ph.D., director of the Ed.D. program and associate professor of education. “We are excited to share Rockhurst University’s strengths and the rigor of its doctorate program in ever-expanding international settings.”
