New Hawks are Introduced to School and Service
The Class of 2015 took their first big step in becoming a part of Rockhurst University over the weekend. New Student Orientation kicked off a brand new year, with introductions and special events taking place over four, fun-filled days. This year’s theme, “Finding God in All Things,” was a consistent talking point throughout the weekend, as well as discussions around the University’s mission and values: learning, leadership and service.
Besides moving in and meeting new friends, these fresh-faced Hawks enjoyed a range of opportunities to become better acquainted with Rockhurst and the Kansas City community. Activities included everything from a welcome picnic and introductory mass to a mascot competition and student olympics. On Sunday, Aug. 21, orientation attendees even experienced their first glimpse into RU athletics at the men's soccer game: Rockhurst vs. UMKC.
Also, on Sunday, 548 members of the Rockhurst community – including new students, faculty, staff, alumni, returning students, and 40 members of the Finucane Family – participated in the Finucane Service Project. A Rockhurst tradition of 19 years, this project places University volunteers at 27 locations throughout the metro area to benefit Kansas City neighborhoods, schools and social-service agencies.
Sr. Linda Roth, Cristo Rey High School said, “We have some very happy staff because of the work this group accomplished. They were so courteous and helpful. Thank you for a wonderful program.”
