Rockhurst, Canisius Presidents Agree to Friendly AFC Champion Wager
This Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills will face off in the AFC Championship game. And the presidents of the two Jesuit universities in those respective cities have decided to make it interesting.
In the spirit of friendly competition, COVID protection and civic pride, Rockhurst University’s the Rev. Thomas B. Curran, S.J., and John J. Hurley of Buffalo, New York’s Canisius College have agreed to a friendly wager. Should the Chiefs win Sunday, Hurley will don facemask with the winning team's logo for an entire day next week. And vice-versa should the Bills emerge victorious. That means plenty of sideways glances and maybe some awkward questions during meetings. And they must prove adherence to the consequences with a photo posted on social media.
“I am happy to agree to this friendly wager with my counterpart at Canisius College — partly in the spirit of Jesuit companionship, but also because I believe President Hurley will look great in red and yellow come next week,” Fr. Curran said. “And it will be a great gesture of Kansas City hospitality to admit a member of the Bills Mafia into our Chiefs kingdom.”
