Midwest Poet Series: Melissa Ferrer Civil and Glenn North

Melissa Ferrer Civil (she/they) is a poet, organizer, educator, and current Charlotte Street Resident living on Kaw, Kickapoo, Kansa, and Oceti Sakowin lands (Kansas City, Missouri). They are the current and first-ever Kansas City poet laureate. A self-proclaimed artist-in-exile, they are preoccupied with constructing new communication for the manifestation of a home we all hold in our hearts.

 

Glenn A. North is an award-winning poet, activist, educator, and arts executive based in Kansas City. He is currently the Director of Inclusive Learning & Creative Impact at the Kansas City Museum, and served formerly as Executive Director at the Bruce A. Watkins Cultural Center. He has previously served at the American Jazz Museum and The Black Archives of Kansas City / Mid-America. Glenn earned his M.F.A. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In addition to presenting poetry, Glenn also conducts workshops on Ekphrastic poetry, using poetry to address issues of social justice, and self-empowerment for disenfranchised students through reflective poetry.
