Biography
Katie Ryan-Bloomer, Ph.D., is a tenured assistant professor of occupational therapy within the College of Health and Human Services. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in 2001 and her Master of Occupational Therapy in 2003 from Rockhurst University, as well as her Ph.D. in occupational therapy from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas, in 2011. While obtaining her doctorate degree, Ryan-Bloomer worked at a pediatric rehab hospital on the inpatient, outpatient and feeding teams.
She has been a member of the occupational therapy department since 2009. Ryan-Bloomer currently teaches occupations across the lifespan, medically based pediatric practice lecture and lab, research design and analysis, research proposal development, as well as research synthesis and dissemination courses.
Research and practice area interests include medically based pediatrics, Pediatric Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (P-CIMT), play and playfulness in hospitalized children and in children with visual impairments, sensory processing, sensory integration, as well as inter-professional collaboration. In addition, Ryan-Bloomer works as a PRN occupational therapist at Ability KC (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City), where she runs and researches some of the P-CIMT summer programs. Her scholarly works include international journal publication, book chapters, numerous national and state presentations, as well as grant obtainment.
