Biography
Hyun-Ki Yoon is an active pianist and chamber musician who has performed at venues throughout the world, including Carnegie Hall, The Kauffman Center, and The Missouri Theatre in the United States; Seong-San Art Hall and Bu-Cheon Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Hall in South Korea; Ho Chi Minh City Opera House in Vietnam; Korea Kulturhaus Österreich and The Bezirksmuseum Floridsdorf in Austria; Festival Kefasfest in Czechia; Kunsthaus-Berlin-Marbella in Spain; and Kulturfabrik Ibach-Haus in Germany.
As a South Korean, Dr. Yoon has received national recognition. His performances have been broadcast on the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), and he has had several performance reviews and interviews published in major South Korean newspapers and journals such as Dong-A Ilbo, Jung-Ang Daily, Bu-Cheon City, Gyeong-Nam Ilbo, and Gak-Seck.
Throughout his career, Dr. Yoon has participated in several piano competitions and has received 1st place awards in The Eum-Yeon Piano Competition, The Music Education Newspaper Competition, and The American Prize Competition. He also received a 2nd place award in The American Protégé International Competition.
As a scholar, he has given lectures and master classes at The College Music Society (CMS), The Music Teachers National Association (MMTA), Albany State University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, The University of Delaware, The University of Wisconsin – Stout, Western Illinois University, Wichita State University, and Chang-Shin University.
During his formative years, he pursued his education at Chu-Gye University for the Arts in Seoul, earning a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. He furthered his studies at the University of Missouri - Columbia, where he attained a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance, graduating with honors as an outstanding student. Subsequently, at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, he completed his Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance, having been granted a full scholarship for the entirety of his doctoral program.
He taught applied piano, served as an accompanist for opera workshops, and instrumental studies studios at both the University of Missouri – Columbia and the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Since 2017, he has been instructing applied piano I, II, III and IV for a cohort of over 20 students, teaching music theory class, and serving as an accompanist for the university choir in Collegiate of Arts and Science and a Liturgical musician in Campus Ministry at Rockhurst University. Additionally, he holds the esteemed position of Vice President at the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA).
