Biography
Dr. Walter is a tenure-track assistant professor in the School of Education. Prior to her time at Rockhurst University, she taught English, social science, reading and AVID in the Blue Valley USD in Overland Park, Kansas. She was honored as the 2008 Blue Valley Teacher of the Year.
Dr. Walter is currently conducting a study with RU colleague, Dr. Michelle McOsker from the CSD department and Dr. Saneta Thurmond from Saint Louis University's College of Health Sciences examining the collaboration between Speech Language Pathologists and Pre-Serivce Teachers. Additionally, she is collaborating with colleagues from the School of Education on a completer impact study at the university. Additional research interests include educational leadership, trauma-informed schools, and social justice. She teaches a variety of courses in the school of education: Introduction to Education, Foundations of Classroom Management, Foundations of Special Education, Manresa, Curriculum/Methods/Assessment for Secondary Educators, and Student Teaching Seminar. Additionally, she has taught the Higher Education Assessment course in the EdD program. She also acts as a University mentor for student teachers and advises secondary English, Social Science, and foreign language students.
Her philosophy of education is closely tied to the Jesuit Core Values of Magis and Cura Personalis as she seeks to engage pre-service and in-service teachers in the ideals of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
