Who we are
Founded by the Jesuits in 1910, Rockhurst is a comprehensive university that offers more than 50 bachelor's and graduate programs taught by nationally recognized faculty. Rockhurst emphasizes learning, leadership and service.
Mission
Rockhurst University exists to transform lives by creating a learning community centered on excellence in undergraduate liberal education and graduate education. Rockhurst is Catholic and Jesuit, involved in the life and growth of the city and the region, and committed to the service of the contemporary world.
Academics
The Jesuit tradition of focus on individual dignity runs through the curriculum, which is based on the seven classical modes of inquiry: artistic, historical, literary, philosophical, theological, scientific relational and scientific causal.

Faculty
A 14:1 student-faculty ratio fosters rich campus discussions and wide opportunities for student research. Average class size is 24 students.
Professors, as opposed to graduate teaching assistants, teach freshman courses. Ninety-two percent of full-time faculty hold the highest degree in their field.
Commitment to Service
Each year, Rockhurst’s Center for Service Learning matches student volunteers with more than 100 local organizations in need. Rockhurst students give more than 30,000 hours annually in service to others.
Distinction
In 2003, the prestigious Carnegie Foundation named Rockhurst as one of 12 national leadership sites for the scholarship of teaching and learning. In 2006, Rockhurst was selected as one of 12 colleges and universities nationwide to lead an effort to improve teaching in higher education. And, in 2010, the foundation recognized the University for the strength of its community outreach efforts by awarding Rockhurst its community engagement classification. Rockhurst is the only institution in the Kansas City area to have earned this high honor.
Alumni
While more than half of Rockhurst's 25,000 alumni live in the Kansas City metropolitan area, every state in the U.S. and many foreign countries are influenced by the Rockhurst alumni who live there.
